You don’t listen to music on your Walkman, so why are you still using exhibitor badge scanners?

One of the most exciting things about the exhibition space, is how the experience is increasingly being determined by the attendee. Or, should I say, the participant. No longer is attending an exhibition or trade show a ‘voyeuristic’ exercise, where people walk the aisles while exhibitors sport their wares, and technology is one of the best facilitators of this.

Sadly though, there are still a couple of hangovers from the ‘fax machine’ era of event technology that won’t go away. The worst of which is the still-way-too-common Read More

MHEDA to utilize Poken's Digital Event Platform for a third straight year!

Poken and MHEDAMHEDA was first introduced to Poken 30,000 feet in the air, in an American Airlines magazine article. Wanting to do something different at their 2012 conference, MHEDA brought Poken in to create a dynamic atmosphere, boost networking, and provide exhibitors with the best lead generation platform available. Poken sure made a splash, empowering attendees on average to make 45 connections, with the top “Pokenaut” achieving over 400!

As we’ve been lucky enough to extend our relationship with MHEDA for third year, to keep things fresh and increase utility MHEDA will add our Event Mobile App app and adorn the poken networking devices with fun caps.

Poken and MHEDA

In order to ensure broad use of the mobile app features, Poken has designed a class-leading HTML5 app that does not require being downloaded from an app store – it takes advantage of powerful new features in the browser, and launches instantly from a simple email link. Attendees will use their smartphones to add to the interactive experience that connects attendees, exhibitors, break out session, and provides an interactive agenda with session builder.
To add a little fun and stay with the 2014 Conference theme of Superheroes, the Pokens will come with one of five superhero MHEDA caps, how cool is that!

Why is Poken the leading Content Management System for NFC?

By Stéphane Doutriaux, Founder & CPO, Poken.

In the past few years a number of Startups have successfully grown new low-cost SaaS offerings that are disrupting the market. Old-timers like IBM (FileNet), EMC (Documentum), Microsoft (SharePoint) are facing new competition from the likes of Alfresco, box.net, Egnyte, Dropbox, etc. These traditionally hardware-intensive services have successfully moved to the cloud, and achieved the scalability and reliability expected from the toughest enterprise customers.

This reflects an emerging trend that hardware be associated with a service – an attempt at making complex technology disappear, in favor of simple and clean configuration interfaces. Such an evolution puts powerful technologies in the hands of more people, increasing opportunities and overall business growth.

When will NFC finally hit the market?

People often ask of NFC “When will it finally hit the market”? A question whose answer is not straightforward, as Near Field Communication is a technology that, without being associated with a service, does not provide utility in itself. Following the trend driven by cloud computing, only recently have end-to-end solutions started appearing, using NFC as part of new and exciting value propositions.

Poken is leading the way with an end-to-end platform that combines cloud-based services that manage content, devices that help integrate users and function, and mobile UIs that extend the reach and manageability of it all. NFC is a small yet powerful piece that sits in the middle, providing the soul of a full-featured touch-based experience.

We refer to Poken’s offering as a “Content Management System, for NFC”. How can Poken’s platform be characterized? What is the role of a CMS in deploying touch-based services? And How has Poken overcome the market challenges inherent to NFC, to achieve its lead?

Read on for answers.

Poken wishes you a happy holiday season.

In 2011, we worked together with hundreds of customers across several different industries, adding value to their events and businesses through the innovative new products we launched this year.

We were blown away by the different uses our customers found for our technology, and their creative ideas to use our platform to address their specific needs. They certainly pushed our team to further improve our content management system and to deliver unique customized experiences to their target audiences.

We couldn’t have achieved this without the dedication and support of our worldwide network of resellers. They continue to play an important part in our global growth and in the development of innovative solutions for our clients around the world.

In 2012, we will continue to enhance our platform with new widgets and further possibilities for customization, and also to extend the reach of our mobile app to different platforms, building upon the great advances we made in 2011.

As the end of this year approaches, we would like to wish you a happy holiday season, and to invite you to be part of our success in the coming year.

High four from the Poken team!

Poken and Nokia are leading the way to make the benefits of NFC mainstream.

The term NFC may sound very technical, but the technology itself is very simple to understand and easy to use. It stands for Near Field Communication, a secure way to establish a high-speed wireless connection between two devices by simply touching them.

The technology enables encrypted data exchange that makes sharing of information more intuitive and interactive. No manual configurations are necessary to identify the two devices. The connection between them is automatically established with a simple touch.

NFC is not a new technology. It has been around for a few years, but it was not until recently that businesses have been unveiling all it’s potential, using it to differentiate their brands, to distribute rich media information offline and engage potential customers in interactive experiences.

Poken app will come pre-installed in most Nokia’s NFC-enabled phones.

Nokia led the way back in 2006, creating the first mobile phone to use NFC. Recognizing our leadership in the deployment of NFC solutions, Nokia partnered with Poken to bring into the mainstream some of the benefits of the technology to our everyday lives. To achieve that, most NFC-enabled Nokia phones will come with the pokenMOBILE App pre-installed.

People can use the app to create their social business card and instantly swop all their contact details and social network profiles with one simple touch.

It can also be used to collect rich media offline, such as digital discount vouchers, promotional coupons and multimedia information about products and shops. All that is displayed in real-time on the phone screen.

Poken is being featured in Nokia’s 701 marketing campaign.

Acknowledging all the benefits our application will bring to users, Nokia decided to feature the Poken app on all marketing collaterals for the launch of the new 701 phones in Turkey, including television ads, billboards, online banners, magazine and newspaper ads.

To support this major launch, we created a website in turkish with information about our products and business solutions, along with a promotional campaign to motivate people to invite their friends to download the pokenMOBILE app. Participants will get in a draw to win a Nokia Prize Package, that includes Nokia Play 360° NFC Speakers, Nokia Bluetooth Stereo Headset BH-905 and Nokia Speakerphone HF-310.

Over the years, Poken has been deploying NFC to help corporate customers to enhance networking experience at events, distribute rich media offline and generate high quality leads.

Now, with pokenMOBILE coming pre-installed in all NFC-enabled Nokia phones, we are starting to make the benefits of the technology available to the consumer market, enabling a more intuitive way for people to interact with the world.

SCHOOL OF WOM 2011 – a social networking masterpiece !

Turns out that people not only like to talk but also to Poken. These two social activities combined transform a regular event into a social networking masterpiece! This happened recently during the last School of WOM Event held in Chicago where mainstay companies such as Pemco Insurance, GAP, and Intuit gathered to reveal and discuss the importance of the “word of mouth” strategy.

Kelly (WOMMA) and Denny (Poken US)

The event was organized by WOMMA a nonprofit organization that advances and advocates the discipline of the credible word of mouth marketing.  WOMMA is a community of marketers that meet and strategize on best practices as it relates to customers talking online and offline about various brands.

The recent School of WOM Event was a smashing success, enhanced big time by Poken. Yep, once again Poken was the key tool that generated a word of mouth buzz. Poken was sponsored by Nology Media who is a content publishing, measurement and marketing agency that uses social media tools and platforms to intimately connect brands with their audiences.
